Setting goals gives me the focus I need to get things done. If I don’t, my mind will just wander. Having goals helps me to organize my day, my week, and even my month. It gives me a purpose. Life is just better for me when I’m working towards something. If you aren’t working towards anything you’re just existing. I’ve lived like that and it isn’t fun. I would just wake up on so many days with no drive at all. I could have stayed in bed and just wasted my day away. That’s what so many of you are doing. You’re not living your life at all. You say you want to improve your life but you’re not working towards anything. If you work towards nothing guess what you’re going to get, nothing. What are you working towards right now during this time in quarantine? Are you just waking up and getting out of bed at whatever time? Are you still actively pursuing something or are you just sitting on the couch all day watching television? You may not see it now, but you’ve been given a valuable resource and all you’re doing is wasting it if you’re not working towards anything. You must set goals and be purposeful in achieving them. What does that look like? I’m glad you asked. I’ll show you.
One of the goals I’ve set is to have a better relationship with my daughter through exercise (I do not care how great a relationship may be, it can always be just a little bit better). I reverse engineered the process. I saw in my head what I wanted that to look like. In my head, it’s me and Allie doing home workouts together. I wanted to make sure that she is active while also helping her to be better coordinated in certain movements. At least 5-6 days a week, she and I are exercising together. For me, it means exercising twice a day now, but it’s so worth it. The joy for me is knowing that Allie is enjoying doing something that I absolutely love. So far, it’s working. You want to know why it’s working? Because I am putting my energy towards it.
Another goal I’ve set is to cultivate a better marriage during this time. With a lot of couples not being able to stand each other right now, I wanted to make sure that statement wasn’t true for this house. Yes, I’ve pictured in my head what I want it to look like the day this quarantine is over and am actively working towards making it happen. Life has thrown a curve ball. The creativity has to go to another level. Oh, you thought I was going to tell you exactly what I’m doing? Nope! I like to keep whatever moves I make in house, in the house. But I will tell you this. Focus on those small things. Do those things consistently and it will work out in your favor in the end.
I have set goals to complete certain projects indoors and outdoors. There are certain times and days allocated for me to get these things done. These projects have a deadline (end of quarantine) and they have given me a purpose for the day. Even in the midst of chaos, my day is still planned. Now is the perfect time to get things in order. Set a goal, create a plan, and get it done.
I keep seeing too many people panicking and worrying about the things that they have no control over right now. Instead, turn that energy into something positive. Accomplish things that you want to get done. I know that I’ve been talking about this a lot lately, but I just want you to know that you can come out of this better than you went in. I know that there is a lot of uncertainty right now. But you know what, control what you can control. You can still operate and create something positive within the parameters we’ve been given. There is no excuse to why you cannot make at least one area of your life better during this time. Getting knocked down happens. Staying down is a choice. Set a goal and complete. If the only goal you set is to read a book, then read that book. You now have more knowledge that you are not able to use. I cannot stress to you that what you do during this time is important. Do not waste it. You can do this. I believe in you. Now, set a goal and get after it. You got this.
Excellent goals brother
